We all wear masks some with makeup some with smiles some with wives or husbands cars or clothes we hide from the world and ourselves we hide from out truths behind our eyes.
[Relax may not be in his vocabulary anymore - least of all when in a bar that sometimes feel more like a strip club (not that he would know for sure! but) more than anything else he can picture.
He is not quite sure he isn't. But that lady is gone now and she's out of mind. Lucifer's reason for calling him here has some intrigue so he wants to hear it. It's just that he isn't so sure what to make of it when it is laid out there because it's not what he was expecting.
Maybe, he thought, this was about another gun or two. That comment about girls and boys makes his face twist with uncertainty to what to say. He looks back, blinking.
Lucifer won't find a response to the first part anyway because Carl's mind can focus on one awkward thing at a time. Ah ha. He shifts awkwardly in his seat before finding any response to that.]
Is that what this is? You didn't really have to... I tried drinking once a long time ago, but I didn't like it at all. And I can't just bring myself to bring myself to g-get a girl just like that.
[Some could say Carl is a very dull boy.]
Maybe I can try to relax though. I am done chores.
I'm sure what it was. It was a long time ago now. You wouldn't have soda, would you?
[He tries not to seem highly uncomfortable with the arm wrapped around his shoulder and the suggestions put in words, but he stiffs up despite his better attempt anyway.] I mean it, though.
A lot of reasons. Like not knowing what we have in common. I don't think I like, um, how they're comfortable in this environment. I mean, it's not the worst place I've seen. It's just not my thing.
Maybe I'm just dull...
Maybe this isn't the place I wanna meet a girl. [he amends.]
Soda is a start I suppose. [ He waves someone over to take the young man's order.
Ugh. Humans, even tiny ones like Carl, always make things needlessly complicated with feelings and emotions and all sorts of other hang ups. It's no wonder they don't get anything else done in their short lives. ]
Well, I didn't say don't not talk with them. But that doesn't mean one has to be going home empty handed at the end of the night. [ Lucifer looks around the place, brows knitting together briefly as he does. He doesn't see anything particularly wrong with this place, but well--- ]
Right. If not here, tell me where it is that you'd prefer to go. To meet girls or hang out?
[ Progress, right? Linda would be proud. He's trying at least. ]
[Carl shrugs, smiling on the one side with an eye. He gets that Lucifer may be disappointed by that. They're just two different kinds of people though and he's trying to being truthful and uncompromising in that.
It's much appreciated that the devil puts his order in. And it's not lost on his ear when he hears some compromise too.]
Well, um. I can talk to them. I'm not really looking for anything from them though. [Ain't that the truth. He has a lot of hang ups and one of them remains firmly that the idea of sex be with someone special.
And to answer that. It's a nightclub, Lucifer. Kids usually end up places like the movies. Carl, however, isn't sure where it is he would prefer to go.]
To meet girls? Dunno. Any where they're my age. [as a start.]
[ Lucifer does have the capacity to compromise, though his brothers might disagree. Hardly fair to forget that about him, really. He's a great negotiator. He's been around long enough for it, after all.
He hums thoughtfully, as he continues, offering the occasional nod. ]
Right, so that takes this place off the list in short order. So we need a new place, and you need a wingman, which makes this perfect.
So, we finish our drinks, and head off to find a place for tiny humans like yourself.
[As far as Carl can judge with how he's seen Lucifer behave, it's somewhere on the line of a fair compromise for them both.
Still, he has to think of what he just got himself into, and force a nod.]
Okay. We'll finish the drinks first, then think where to go. [He hopes that will give him the time to get his head around...this. All of it.
When his soda arrives, he sips on it quickly, calm his nervous with the sugar intake, then slows down the second he realizes he shouldn't be so quick to get it out of the way.]
[No way. He's definitely drinking it slower. Eventually though, he reaches the bottom of the glass. Carl sets his eye on Lucifer to see where he is with the alcoholic drink.

[ He laughs at the comment, and leans back, arm wrapping around the young man's shoulders. ] Well of course I did! You weren't going to, were you?
Why not? What's stopping you from going up to one of any of these ravishing young men or women and just---introducing yourself?
You said it yourself, chores are done for the day. All work and no play makes Carl a very dull boy indeed.

Sounds like a fine plan. I'll order another one for myself.
[ It isn't as if he'll get drunk so easily. It takes much, much more to do that. ]

He swallows.]
I guess, I'm ready, any time you are?
